We left Fishguard at 0420. It was still pitch black so we had to navigate out again with our high beam lamp- very useful bit of kit that! The weather forecast was not great, but we couldn't stay in Fishguard so we had no choice but to press on to Milford so we could leave the boat safely for the week- and also so we could catch a train home. Wales has an appalling rail network at the best of times, but a sunday afternoon was particularly desolate! We somehow had to get back to Pwllheli where we left the car and then drive back to Southampton all before Monday morning. So, off we went into the unknown.
It's always so difficult to capture the waves or the sea properly- especially in bad conditions. It wasn't particularly bad, we just weren't ready for it.
Kat was very poorly as we rounded St Davids Head. The seas were side on and the boat was rolling all over the place, but because we were anxious to get into port we pretty much ignored the sensible course of action to turn the boat, instead we stuck the engine on and pointed the most direct course we could. This did nothing to help the queasiness! However, the wind and waves did ease off at about midday and then the dolphins came out! They were so beautiful, playing around the boat without a care in the world. This certainly made the trip more bearable and exciting! We docked in Milford Haven and finally saw the carnage which had been done to the boat. The waves had pulled the teak rubbing strake off the side of the gunwale and also taken one of the 'M's! Poor old girl, she looks quite beaten up! Kat certainly could empathise! Jay on the other hand has a stomach of iron and didnt feel a thing! Don't you just hate people like that! When we eventually docked at 1300 we went straight to the train station. Kat went back to Southampton and Jay spent the whole of Sunday afternoon and Monday morning getting back to Pwllheli! Never ever ever again are we sailing to a train schedule. |
