As you may have gathered, we have already broken our mission statement. We were three weeks in and only at Milford Haven. Kat was stuck with work and the boat was stuck in Wales. Things were getting desperate. So Jay, hero that he is, volunteered to take the long trek across the Bristol Channel on his own. In stormy seas and 30 knots. Admittedly, he didnt know it was that bad till he was out there, but it was still a heroic gesture.

It took him 14 hours of battling with big waves and an autopilot which didnt want to work so he had to hand steer. He was exhausted.

As he passed Lundy Island, the wind dropped slightly and he saw over 200 dolphins come out and play. It was one of the most amazing scenes he's ever witnessed. He was too tired to take many pictures, but here they are.
He also believes he hit a basking shark. There was a dull thud, the boat slowed right down and he saw a huge shape coming round the port bow. It was bigger than the boat! Hope we didn't give it too much of a headache!

Eventually, he limped into Clovelly harbour in fog and at night and was rescued by Kat's parents for a hot bath and bed.
