We'd left Money safely tied up in Plymouth harbour for the week, and now we were back! How lucky were we- after a week of storms and strong winds, this was what we woke up to! A perfect sailing day.
We left Plymouth at 0800 and finally cleared the breakwater at 0830. One of the things we love most about sailing is all the wildlife, and today was particularly full of creatures to admire. There were hundreds of seabirds and fish all around- it was lovely to just drift along admiring the scenery. We'd both had stressful weeks and this was a perfect way to unwind. We passed a lot of military exercise areas, including one where a submarine was diving quite close to us. We looked around for it but didnt see it- that would have been brilliant to watch.
We would have loved to have stopped in Dartmouth for the evening, but we needed to get the boat as far as possible as quick as possible, so we missed Dartmouth out and headed into Brixham. This is a gorgeous little fishing harbour with lots of activity going on- it was fun to sit and watch.
However, we couldn't do much of that as our engine had fallen off it's engine mount! The only thing we paid anyone to do when we bought the boat were some marine engineers to fix the engine. What a waste of time and money that was, as all our problems came from this area. They hadn't tightened the bolts on the engine, so they finally worked themselves loose, they hadn't fixed the alternator and they also hadn't packed the stuffing gland properly. We had to fix all this as we went along. Still, Brixham proved a great stop as we managed to find two extremely helpful fishermen who re-welded the engine mount and helped us lift it back onto the support. We were so grateful for the kindness and help of strangers.
Moneypenny all snug in her berth for the evening.
